Our Annual Awards Celebration, 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, is our opportunity to say THANK YOU to all of the incredible people who make our work possible. We understand that our Meaningful Movies events could not happen without incredible filmmakers, films and partner organizations that work with us to support events! REGISTER HERE! Every person who tunes into the Awards Celebration will be entered to win a fabulous prize drawing the night of the event!

For those of you who are still learning about us – the Meaningful Movies Project is a network of volunteer-run neighborhood venues that are organizing, educating, and advocating for a more peaceful and just world by showing inspirational social justice documentaries followed by facilitated conversation and a call to action.

We understand that truth and community are fundamental building blocks of real democracy. By supporting independent media and fostering important conversations about social justice issues that are often ignored by mainstream media, we are helping to inspire families, friends, neighbors, and communities to work for the common good. By creating spaces – whether online or in person – where people can come to know each other, learn about pressing issues, and talk to one another about hard topics, we are helping to bridge divides, build community, build understanding, and find common cause.

This will be a fabulous evening of fun, entertainment and inspiration! Join us as we celebrate our 2020 award winners, watch film clips, and hear from awardees, venue leaders and our supporters! And… every person who tunes into the Awards Celebration will be entered to win a fabulous prize drawing the night of the event! Join us!!!

Please note that we are holding several online special events during October: this AWARDS CELEBRATION, an AUCTION and two FILM EVENTS: RESISTERHOOD and TRUE JUSTICE. Also: Screening of UnRepresented, 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27. “UnRepresented“ investigates the mechanisms that give political insiders enormous, unchecked power. If you are tired of the status quo, then join us for a virtual screening of this important new film and take part in a panel discussion following the movie to hear about grassroots movements taking shape to break this cycle. We will also discuss legislative efforts happening in Washington State. Register here to be part of the screening.

And: Screening of Resisterhood, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. This powerful documentary captures the stories of everyday Americans who became grassroots activists working tirelessly to defend our democracy and stop the erosion of our civil rights. “Resisterhood” showcases the wave that brought us the most ethnically, racially and gender diverse Congress in history. It shares stories of hope that will re-energize the movement and inspire even more people to join the fight to secure a bright future for our county. Register here to be part of the screening.

Wednesday Nights at Keystone (Oct. 21, 2020)

Join us every Wednesday night for a short Lectio Divina practice, beginning at 6 p.m. and running until 6:20 p.m., using the scripture for the following Sunday as a meditative focus. After that practice the space opens up for our community nights, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The schedule for the next several weeks includes:

TONIGHT: Tonight we'll continue telling stories under the theme of "Transcendence." Tonight’s storyteller: John Preson.

Concerns of the World: A new focus for our Wednesday community gatherings is a night dedicated each month where we can come together to share our concerns about things that are going on the world. Come to vent, worry, and pray in community about the things that are happening around us all. The first night of this gathering will be Oct. 28. 

Green Team: The next Green Team meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4, in the Keystone Zoom space. Focus: Jim Antel’s book Climate Church, Climate World, Chapters 5 and 6.

Our Wednesday night community space opens up at 6:20 p.m., after the weekly Lectio Divina practice, with the evening gathering officially starting at 6:30 p.m., in the same Zoom space we use on Sunday mornings and for our other gatherings (look for a Cheat Sheet with the info coming in your email every Wednesday night!).

Dear Keystone,

This past Thursday I attended the general meeting of the Coalition on Homelessness where Dow Constantine thanked everyone who helped pass the Health Through Housing Initiative. Thank you, Keystone, for sending a note to the KC Council.  Please send an email here send an email to your King County Councilmember to thank them for passing a regional response to homelessness! 

 As I mentioned on Sunday, people of faith can extend their opinions on Referendums, Propositions and Charter Amendments.  The Coalition had speakers come and talk about the following November ballot highlights:  I encourage all of us to look at these.  Our unhoused deserve clean sanitation, clean water, shelter and food!

We were joined by representatives from Yes on Seattle Proposition 1, Yes on King County Proposition 1, Yes on King County Charter Amendment 2 and Yes on Referendum 90campaigns. We have posted information and social media resources for all these important November ballot items on our website, click here to learn more.

 One other piece of information from the meeting that I thought was important is that many King County residents with very low or no income will soon have access to free annual transit passes under a new program being piloted by the county and Sound Transit. The subsidized annual passes — which can be used on several different transit services, including King County Metro's buses and Sounds Transit's Link light rail — will be available to King, Pierce and Snohomish county residents who can't afford the cost of public transportation and are enrolled in other state benefit programs. DSHS, Catholic Community Services, and the Public Health Dept. will be administering these passes.  If you know of anyone who could benefit from this, please let them know to call one of these agencies.  I do know that those on TANF, ABD, and SSI are eligible.

The storytelling space opens up at 6 p.m., for Lectio Divina, which ends at 6:20 p.m. Storytelling will start at 6:30 p.m. Both are in the same Zoom space we use on Sunday mornings and for our other gatherings.

Celebrate Sophie Morse's ordination!

The Pacific Northwest Conference of the UCC and Suquamish Community Congregational UCC are celebrating the ordination of Sophie Morse, from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2020, via Zoom. Sophie served as a pastoral leader at Keystone several years ago.

This past February, Sophie was approved for ordination by the Westside Committee on Ministry for the Pacific Northwest Conference for the United Church of Christ. She will be ordained into a specialized ministry in Conflict Consulting for faith organizations, a culmination of much preparation, training, and discernment. As part of this call, Sophie will be in covenant with the Suquamish Church, the Pacific Northwest Conference, the Dispute Resolution Center of Kitsap County, and an independent Support & Accountability Board. She is excited to be able to branch out and serve her community in this way!

Donations during the service will be accepted to help support the scholarship fund for Members in Discernment (those studying to become ministers in the UCC). For those who want to take care of this ahead of time, here is the link.
